Phillip releases his first tagged stripey
Hi all, the last couple of Ranfurly trips have been ok but not on fire and in the last report i said this would change and change it did big time for Richard Foong and his merry jigging men from Singapore the boy's had a stunner of a trip smashing big kingi's up one after the other with many multiable hook ups, tangles and kaous .when the dust settled, there were five over 30kg and two over 40kg with the best pulling the scales down to 45kg, great to see these monsters weighed, photo's taken and returned to the water to breed and grow even bigger. The boy's didn't stop there they went hunting for a big bass and find it they did in the way of this 60kg beast, the fish pulled our angler around like a rag dole railing him time after time, great battle to watch unfold. Then to put the icing on the cake they tagged an released this stripey off lotten point on the way home. Well done guy's big thumbs up, till next week cheers Lance.

Hi all well as the title states white island is still hot as with very consistent kingi fishing at present, the latest group of hard core Truckies lead by Mark Tucker had a ball with the white island freight trains landing many in the high teens and Steve landing the whopper of the week at 30kg well done boys. White island has been a pleasure to be around the last month with some very good kingi fishing and just at the moment dare i say better then the ranfurly with size and numbers, this will change watch this space as we line up for another jig raid on ranfurly  till next week cheers Lance

Ranfurly Banks

Abri with a nice 26kg kingi
Hi all just back from the banks and well it had to happen after months of great fishing the edge has gone off the kingis. The latest trip with Fanus Crous and his friends and family was somewhat hard, the  boys put in a some big days with the kingi's just not on fire, they still managed some good results but had to work at it so all was not lost. The best fish a prime 31kg  fell to a jig no less and there were many more in the high and low 20's. yer I know you are saying whats wrong with that but this is the furly and we are just blessed with monster kingi's and when we only get 1 over 30kg we think our throats have been cut. Puka fishing was a wee bit hard as well with Vlum landing the monster of the pack at 50kg well done mate.

White island on fire

Vlum with a 25kg kingi
Hi all , well the last week has been at the smokey island of white and boy have the kingi's come on the bite big time as they get ready for spawn. the week has had some epic kingi fishing as good as it gets really with many hot bites and men pulled to the rail one after the other as the white island hogs have there way with them, jigs have come into force big time with them out fishing bait on many occasions, first time in maybe a few years has this happened not sure why but the jiggers are sure not complaining. On the bottom fishing front it's been hard work for very little result all apart from Henrik who broke the trend and landed this prime bass. The last trip was with the boys from General cable and they too got ripped apart from a hot bite that smashed rods and pulled men to the rail as well. good to see the smokey ile on fire at long last. Till next week cheers Lance

Ranfurly Banks

Horse mussel  26kg
Hi all, back from the ranfurly and the place still continues to produce the goods in the way of some great kingi fishing with the boys from Auckland having a ball with 3 days of flat seas and a hot bite to boot. Horse Mussel landed the best of them at 30kg but the rest of the team were not far behind with lots and lots in the high and low 20's , great to see nearly all these fish had there photo taken and returned to the water to grow bigger. Puka fishing was good with most of the fish in the 15-20kg bracket again no real monsters, but plenty of good table fish and a few trumpeter thrown in to make the mix. The weather this last week has been stunning, most days 10-15kts long may it last but knowing ranfurly it won't . till next week cheers Lance

More Ranfurly Giants

44kg Mule
Hi all, well Ranfurly just keeps on cracking out some of the biggest kingi's we have seen in a long while, in the last 2 weeks there have been 3 fish break the magic mark of 40kg, and some super hot bites with jigs, bait and stickbaits all doing the damage. The fish have moved up into the shallows as they get ready to spawn and we have found the deeper spots all go quiet. This week we seen an improvement on the puka with the boys landing some real hogs of them up to 35kg but still no big bass , it seems the puka have move in and the bass out just of late. Water temps continue to rise with them reaching high 16's in the afternoon so dare we say the trips down and back from the bank should start to prove more exciting in the way of trolling. Till next week cheers Lance

Ranfurly land of the giants

Chris with a monster trumpet

Jason hooked up on topwater
Hi all just back from the banks with yet another slammer of a jig trip, Chris Wong lead yet another massive metal raid on Ranfurly with again stunning results. were to start well to begin appox 250 kingfish nailed all on jigs with 5 going over 30kg and Rob's mule that pulled the scales down to 46kg- 101lb  truly the holy grail of kingfish and a mark not many if any will see in there lifetime , the fishing was super hot with many drifts 4 and 5 boys bent on good sized fish. Top water was good as well with Jason nailing the best on top at 27kg and to mix it up a bit trumpeter, bass and puka all fell to the metal baits, no real monsters on the bass and puka but great numbers with the boys nailing a feed in a very short session. The Ranfurly is just getting stronger with every trip a winner at the moment, as water temps continue to rise the kingis will become more aggressive as they rush to build up condition for spawning ,bring it on is all i can say. till next week cheers Lance

More Metal Mania

Walshy with a prime 32kg
Hi all, well metal madness number 2 from the boys at Yeehaa , with second time again on the ranfurly this season, with even better results than their  first orsum trip. Smashing big kingis on jigs is the name of the game and man they do it well with many many over 20kg, 4 over 30kg with the whopper going 38kg. We had said that there had been not to many big bass landed of late but this would change and Fanus from Auckland sure proved that with this monster that went 65kg on the scales well done that man. Top water also showed signs of improvement with a good bite that resulted in a few in the high 20's, 28kg the best good to see this start to fire. As you read this we are heading again down the furly with yet another mad keen group of metal heads so watch out next week for a full report till then cheers Lance
